Frenchman Titouan Perrin-Ganier wins the elite men’s UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships in Waregem, Belgium. In the women’s competition, Italy’s Gaia Tormena clinched gold ahead of Isaure Medde and defending UCI World Champion Coline Clauzure from France.
Defending UCI World Champion Titouan Perrin-Ganier (France) and European Champion Hugo Briatta were the standout performers for France. Titouan Perrin-Ganier was dominant once again winning his third consecutive Elite Men’s Eliminator title at the 2019 UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships in Waregem, Belgium. The race began at 3PM in Waregem with massive crowds lining the course.
Titouan Perrin-Ganier (France) qualified in fourth place and easily made it through the next heats. Jeffrey Hoogland and Lorenzo Serres were the only top four qualifiers not to make the big final. Belgian Fabrice Mels showed a good performance throughout the race and ultimately won the small final ahead of French rider Lorenzo Serres.
Titouan Perrin-Ganier won another gold medal for France in the elite men’s eliminator finals at the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships in Waregem, Belgium. He outsprinted fellow team mate Hugo Briatta and Sweden’s Joel Burman. Hugo Briatta put up a good fight for the gold medal but came away with silver. Joel Burman managed to take a bronze medal for Sweden. Fourth place went to Dutchman Lehvi Braam.
“I’ve had an incredible season so far and I was very confident today but still, it’s a UCI World Championship and it’s always hard to win. I’m glad I can wear the jersey again, told Titouan Perrin-Ganier.
Young gun Gaia Tormena celebrated a victory in the women’s elite eliminator. It was a thrilling big final that saw the young Italian take home the rainbow jersey. Isaure Medde (France) earned the silver medal ahead of Coline Clauzure with the bronze.
After Ella Holmegard (Sweden) set the fastest qualifying time ahead of Dutch rider Didi de Vries and Laurie Vezie (France), it was time for the eliminator heats.
Gaia Tormena, who won two out of three World Cups this year, qualified fourth, and made her way into the final round by winning her first two heats and then holding off Coline Clauzure in the semi-final, with both going to the final. The Italian rider was joined by French riders Coline Clauzure and Isaure Medde and Barbara Prudkova from Czech Republic.
“It was a very exciting race. It feels good to come away with the win. We’re definitely going to celebrate tonight,” said Gaia Tormena afterwards.
Only three days after the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships in Waregem, the action resumes on Sunday, August 18 in the fourth round of the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup in Valkenswaard, The Netherlands.
