
Preview UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships in Waregem, Belgium
City Mountainbike and Waregem prepare to host the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships on Thursday, August 15. The big names in both men’s and women’s competition include the double UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup powered by citymountainbike.com round winners: Hugo Briatta from France and Italy’s Gaia Tormena. The 17-year-old Italian has dominated the women’s competition this year and will be looking to add more sparkle to her trophy case.

All eyes on the rainbow jersey
In the men’s racing, look out for multiple Dutch national champion and overall winner of the 2018 UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup Jeroen van Eck who aims to do better than last year’s fourth place. The Dutchman will be looking to pull off the perfect run in Waregem.
Other medal contenders include reigning UCI World Champion Titouan Perrin-Ganier, Lorenzo Serres from France (two times bronze medallist at the previous UCI World Championships in Chengdu) and Germany’s Simon Gegenheimer (who won the first round of the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup in Waregem back in 2017).
Women to watch include defending UCI World Champion Coline Clauzure (France), European Champion Gaia Tormena and Spain’s Magdalena Duran. Also keep an eye on last year’s bronze medallist Irina Popova from Ukraine.
The new UCI World Champions are likely to show off their rainbow stripes in the next round of the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup, as Valkenswaard (The Netherlands) takes places only three days after the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships.
