MEN’S RESULTS - ROUND 5 - UCI MTB ELIMINATOR WORLD CUP WINTERBERG (GER)

All eyes were on Germany’s Marion Fromberger, as she moved up to take third in the qualifying time trials. Although it was Gaia Tormena who had the fastest lap of the day. The Italian rider made it easily through the heats and won her third UCI World Cup of the season. Tormena won solo ahead of Marion Fromberger. Last round winner Ella Holmegard narrowly held off Dutch rider Didi de Vries in a sprint for third place.
Belgian rider Fabrice Mels started the day setting the fastest qualifying lap. He finished off a great day by winning his second UCI World Cup in Winterberg. Mels held off French riders Hugo Briatta and Titouan Perrin-Ganier in a sprint of three.
Last year’s overall winner of the UCI World Cup, Jeroen van Eck was brimming with confidence going into the penultimate round in Winterberg but got a sluggish start and had to satisfy with fourth position.
Frenchman Hugo Briatta managed to secure second place and retains his overall lead going into the final round in Graz, Austria. Fellow French rider Titouan Perrin-Ganier is now second with 155 points with Dutch champion Jeroen van Eck a further 10 points behind.
Gaia Tormena solidified her lead in the overall standings with 188 points. Sweden’s Ella Holmegard sits second at 136 points, followed by German rider Marion Fromberger at 132 points.
The final round of the UCI MTB Eliminator World Cup will be concluded on Friday, September 20th in Graz, Austria.
