Vive la France in Seine-et-Marne: Perrin-Ganier and Garnier win in front of home crowds!

The home riders have dominated the French penultimate UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup round in Seine-et-Marne: Titouan Perrin-Ganier and Noémie Garnier took the win on a demanding natural course.

Vélo en Grand, the first bike festival in the Île-de-France region, welcomed the fifth and penultimate race of the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup for a natural but physical round in Jablines-Annet, close to Paris.

The home riders were dominant all day, with Lorenzo Serres and Noémie Garnier setting the fastest qualifying times in the opening time trials. UCI World Cup leader Gaia Tormena being absent because of sponsor duties, Garnier kept on winning. The 20-year-old French champion and UCI world vice-champion is becoming a new star in eliminator racing quickly, taking a sprint win in the big final in front of German challengers Lia Schrievers and Marion Fromberger. Didi de Vries (NLD) placed fourth, Ella Holmegard (SWE) fifth.

Only five days after securing his first UCI World Cup round ever in Winterberg, four-times world champion Titouan Perrin-Ganier continued his winning monumentum in Seine-et-Marne. ‘TPG’ was unbeatable all day, winning his quarter-finals and semi-finals in front of UCI world champion Simon Gegenheimer. The same happened in the big final, where Perrin-Ganier secured the win thanks to a strong move in the last lap, preceding German Gegenheimer once again. Jeroen van Eck from The Netherlands took third place home, in front of German champion Felix Klausmann. TT winner Serres stormed to the win (and fifth place overall) in the small final.

Finish line quotes

“Sorry: I don’t know what’s happening!”, Titouan Perrin-Ganier joked after his second win in the UCI World Cup. “I never won a World Cup round until five days ago, and today I’m taking my second one, in front of my French crowd, in this cool place, after a super tactical but also super physical race. I’m really happy!”

“It’s a super nice feeling to win here today, in France”, Noémie Garnier smiled. “The race track being fairly long, [team mate] Titouan [Perrin-Ganier] warned me to stay in second place for most of the race, which I did, ready for the sprint. It worked out in the end. This was a ‘victoire à la pédale’!”
