Palangkaraya, Indonesia, set to host 2023 UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships
Mountain bike eliminator racing is set to experience another highlight in 2023: for the first time in the history of the spectacular discipline, Indonesia will be hosting the UCI World Championships. On October 15, 2023, Palangkaraya will have the honour of being the stage setting of the battle for the iconic rainbow shirts.
Palangkaraya is no newcomer in the eliminator scene. In 2022, the capital of Central Kalimantan was part of the UCI World Cup. An unforgettable memory, for both riders and fans. A huge local crowd went over the moon when welcoming several of the world’s best eliminator riders.
An extremely technical track offered spectacular racing and some surprising top-notch performances from the local Asian riders. It was the perfect rehearsal for the 2023 UCI World Championships, set for October 15.
H. Sugianto Sabran, Governor of Central Kalimantan, is proud to be the host in Palangkaraya for the absolute highlight of next year’s City Mountainbike season: “I am very excited to welcome the 2023 UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships to Palangkaraya. See you all in Palangkaraya on October 15, 2023!”
Kristof Bruyneel, CEO of City Mountainbike, is excited to return to Palangkaraya: “The 2022 UCI World Cup round in Palangkaraya had a huge impact: the local organisers proved to have the experience to put on a world-class event, attracting thousands of fans and a lot of strong Asian riders. Both organisers, fans and athletes showed to be ready to welcome the UCI World Championships in Asia. This is a big day for the globalisation of our beloved sport.”
Parama Nugroho, Secretary General at the Indonesian Cycling Federation, is looking forward to see the UCI World Championships in Indonesia: “We are very pleased to announce that Palangkaraya, Indonesia will be the host of the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships. We are proud to welcome the eliminator world in our wonderful place.”
The experienced Frenchman Titouan Perrin-Ganier and young Italian star Gaia Tormena are the reigning world champions in the intense, action-packed eliminator discipline. They conquered the rainbow jerseys during last season’s UCI World Championships in Barcelona, Spain.
